The Palm Beach Angels of Coconut Creek (representing greater Fort Lauderdale) wrapped up the division's regular season pennant with a hard fought 5-1 win over the Florida Yankees.
Alvaro Gomez pitched a complete game five hitter, striking out 12 and walking one, for the Halos.
The Angels only managed eight hits, but two of them left the yard.
Ryan Scott's two run home run in the first gave Gomez all of the run support he would need. After an RBI single in the third by Anthony DeFilippis gave the Angels some breathing room, a two run blast by Keith Nicoll provided the Halos with some insurance.
The same two teams appear destined to meet in the semi-final round of the playoffs. |
