It was a bright and sunny day at American High School. The D-Backs would score a run in the 1st, answered by 2 Cardinals runs for a 2-1 Cardinals lead after 1 inning. Neither team scored in the 2nd. The D-Backs put up 2 runs in the 3rd on doubles from David Palma, Gary Rader, and Danny Leon. The Cards would plate 2 unearned runs in the 3rd to keep their lead at 4-3 after 3 innings. The D-Backs would take the lead in the 4th, plating 4 runs on hits from David Palma, Gary Rader, Andy Celaya, and Jeff Bender for a 7-4 D-Backs lead after 4 innings. A successful hit and run by Jeff Bender would plate Jay Habacht in the 5th for an 8-4 lead after 5 innings. The D-Backs would put up 5 runs in the 7th to stretch the lead to 13-4. With time running out, The Cards posted a furious rally, batting around in the 7th inning and scored 7 runs to bring the game to 13-11. With the tying run on 2nd, reliever Mario Figueredo induced a ground ball to 2nd baseman Danny Leon for the final out of the game. Jay Habacht earned the win for The D-Backs - 5 IP, 2 ER. Gary Rader was 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RS, 2 RBI, SAC. David Palma was 2-3, 2B, 2 RS, RBI, 3 SB, BB. Andy Celaya and Jeff Bender each had 2 hits as well.
