| The Southern Yankees don't usually play baseball on Memorial Day weekend but when we do...... more to follow...... On a scorching 94 degree sun splashed afternoon at the Pompey Park ballpark in Delray Beach ,the Southern Yankees & South Florida Angels had an interesting battle that was over early. ..... As many of you who have been reading the color commentary know; over the years we always close the literary recap with Stay Thirsty my friends. Well on this patriotic Memorial Day Weekend the most interesting man in the World remains upstairs in the heavens watching over all of us. And wondering how he's going to fix this madness in the world. But we pay tribute to the second most interesting man in the world and that would be Jonathan Goldsmith. Here is a little history of the icon who made DOS EQUIS famous with his creative, zany, hilarious and clever commercials that had you dreaming of that type of life. Since this column always sends a message about getting knocked down and RISING and since many of us have been knocked down recently. This edition of the color commentary will definitely get you thinking about your own situation and how you can overcome any obstacles in your path. No matter how out of the blue, big, unfair, upsetting or unnerving they may be. Lets give you a little background on the actor who played the most interesting man in the world and you will be amazed on how far he came from where he was. Jonathan Goldsmith appeared in over 350 TV shows, westerns and other films with legends John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He hit a 10 year rut after the films where there were no acting offers coming his way. And at one point he was driving a garbage truck in Beverly Hills to make ends meet. Yes its true. He had financial issues that all of us experienced at sometime in our lives but he was picking up the trash and sleeping in his truck. Like we always advocate the wheel of life is always turning and it turned in his direction as it will turn in yours too in the not to distant future. Everyone has an Angel waiting to guide them and point them in the right direction . We try to always do that here with the symbolism and teachings that you can use to extricate yourself out of whatever or whoever has knocked you off your perch. Time to get back UP! Goldsmith later received A call from the one & only agent or in the case HIS Angel who would deal with him and auditioned for the Dos Equis beer commercials as TMIMITW. You know what it stands for. HE beat out 500 other applicants ,yes 500 of them. So after feeling he had no shot he landed the role- the rest is history. Now when he goes to Museums he is allowed to touch the art. Cuba imports cigars from him and mosquitoes refuse to bite him purely out of respect. Sasquash AKA BIGFOOT has taken a photograph of HIM! Those are just a few appetizers for you to laugh about. When Goldsmith was asked about this secret he said my advice on how to be more interesting is to be INTERESTED and do a lot of different things including he stressed reading a lot as his secret. After hearing and doing some research on him his main theme he had learned from his father was this... It applies to all of us and it is simply not to give up. So when as we always sermonize here every week you have many ifs and's, buts and rejections thrown your way - you have to get back in the batters box of life and take your cuts. Like we always tell you in this column - good things will undoubtedly happen and you will be back on top. Goldsmith flipped his life after all those impediments. Other favorites of mine are his lines His business card simply states I'll call you. He tips an astonishing 100% and lives vicariously through himself. Once he had an awkward moment just to see how it feels. He is now out of LA and living quietly under the radar in Vermont. And if he were to mail a letter without postage it would still get there. When he drives a new car off the lot it increases in value!. The police often question him just because they find him interesting. Oh in between all this entertainment the Yankees played a baseball game and demolished the classy South Florida Angels 27-5. The score was never close as the Angels couldn't find the strike zone early on and it snowballed from there. Since we are talking baseball TMIMITW also is left handed and right handed. Now back to the Southern Yankees standouts. Justin Bartoletta & Yoandi Acuna slapped 3 sharp hits in the win. Louis Sanchez launched 2 home-runs one a 400 foot blast that broke the game open. The Yankees after starting 0 and 2 have now won 8 of 9 and close out their season this week in Pompano Beach against the tough South Florida Dodgers who spanked the Yankees earlier this season in our opener. Its then on to the playoffs on June 9th against the Dade Nationals or Broward Marlins depending on this weeks outcomes. After that no one will be upset as they will be playing on Fathers Day weekend June 16th for all the marbles. Another quote from TMIMITW was- He never wears a watch because time is always on his side. The Southern Yankees hope time is on their side as they will face either the 9 time champion Dade Nationals or super talented Broward Marlins in the coming playoffs. We will keep you posted as we will get to whisper in your ear at least one more time before many of us call it a career and try hitting an even smaller ball on the golf course. At least that ball doesn't move, dart or curve when you are trying to hit it! . But not so fast we still want to play out the season and hopefully get a chance to taste what the talented Dade Nationals have earned for so many consecutive seasons. Lets see how it all plays out. some of us reluctantly ride off into the sunset of our careers. We will look to keep having that interesting life that the 70 plus year old 5 foot 7 actor had. Bet you didn't know that size fact. In closing if he were to pat you on the back you would list it on your resume. Both sides of his pillow are cool.
